If you need to meet with a banking representative, but have limited times that you can meet or are unable to leave your home or place of business for an extended period, a video banking session is one option to get the assistance you need. During a video banking session, you'll be able to interact and converse with the banker just as you would in real life. These sessions are typically conducted using a smart phone, tablet, or computer. To make sure you get the most from your session, here are a few things you should do.

1. Download and Test Any Necessary Apps or Software

Prior to your video appointment, see if you need to download any special software or apps to complete the session. It's a good idea to download these items ahead of time so that you can make sure they're working as intended and so that you aren't scrambling to get everything ready directly before your meeting.

If you don't want to download software or are unable to for whatever reason, one alternative is to see if your bank has a device available at one of its branches for video sessions. Though this option isn't as convenient as conducting the session from your own space, it's a good compromise if you need equipment for your appointment. It can still save you time and mileage if you would otherwise have to drive for your meeting.

2. Gather Your Required Documents

Check that you have any documents for your meeting so that you don't have to conduct a search mid-session. If you have virtual copies of your documents, make sure that you know how to quickly access them. You may prefer to print paper copies of some items so that you can quickly reference the document or make notes on the document throughout your session.

For example, if you're meeting with an investment specialist to diversify your retirement accounts, a copy of your most recent statement is helpful for jotting down suggestions or your ideal percentages for re-balancing your holdings.

3. Make a List of Questions You Want to Ask

Get the most benefit from your video meeting by covering everything that you want to address with a single session. Take a few moments prior to your session and jot down the questions that you have or any terms that you need clarification on.

For some individuals, meetings about financial matters can be stressful and they're more likely to overlook important topics when under duress. Writing down your questions or concerns will prevent you from forgetting to address vital questions.
